Kochi, July 5: Twenty-three days in confinement in a war zone would have been harrowing but the 46 freed Indian nurses who arrived here from Iraq today had not one word of blame for the militants behind their ordeal. Each of the women invariably described the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) insurgents as "friendly". Some of them objected when journalists referred to the militants as "terrorists". "They are the local administration there and we cannot call them terrorists," said nurse Sinimol Chacko, a native of Kannur. If the militants had turned "administrators" in Tikrit, where the nurses were holed up in their hospital, it was because they had overrun the city. But the nurses The Telegraph had the chance to speak to would not call the militants their "captors" or describe themselves as "hostages" — although they agreed the rebels continued to enter and leave the hospital at their will. The nurses, who looked in good health, said they were provided food and water by humanitarian bodies like Red Crescent as well as the militants, who never misbehaved with them. They downplayed reports about some of them suffering injuries following a blast in the hospital. Glass shards from broken panes had hit a couple of them, the nurses said, but could not pinpoint what had caused this. It wasn't clear whether they were being diplomatic keeping in mind the welfare of the many Indians still in Iraq, about whom the government is concerned.

நெல்லை மாவட்டம் சங்கரன்கோவில் நகர இந்து முன்னணி செயலாளர் ஜீவா என்ற ஜீவராஜ் (வயது 37). இவர் நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவில் வீட்டின் அருகே கொடூரமாக கொலை செய்யப்பட்டு கிடந்தார்.

இது தொடர்பாக சங்கரன்கோவில் டவுன் போலீசார் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்தனர். கொலையாளியை போலீசார் தீவிரமாக தேடினார்கள். இந்த சம்பவத்தில் புதிய திருப்பமாக, கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட ஜீவாவின் மனைவி அய்யம்மாளை (31) நேற்று இரவில் போலீசார் கைது செய்தனர்.

பரபரப்பு தகவல்கள்

அவரிடம் நடந்த விசாரணையில் பரபரப்பு தகவல்கள் தெரியவந்தன.

இந்து முன்னணி பிரமுகர் ஜீவாவும், அவருடைய மனைவி அய்யம்மாளும் சுமார் 10 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு காதலித்து திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டார்கள். இவர்களுக்கு 4 பிள்ளைகள் உள்ளனர். இந்த நிலையில், கரடிகுளம் கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஷர்மிளா தேவி என்பவரை, ஜீவா 2–வது திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டார். அதன் பின்புதான் ஜீவாவுக்கும், அய்யம்மாளுக்கும் இடையே வாழ்க்கையில் புயல் வீசியது. கணவன் – மனைவிக்கு இடையே தகராறு ஏற்பட்டு வந்தது. இருந்தாலும் அய்யம்மாள், ஷர்மிளாதேவி மற்றும் பிள்ளைகளுடன் ஒரே வீட்டில் ஜீவா வசித்து வந்தார்.

சமீப காலமாக 2–வது மனைவி ஷர்மிளாதேவியுடன் சேர்ந்து அய்யம்மாளை ஜீவா துன்புறுத்தி வந்தாராம். இதனால் உள்ளூரில் உள்ள தன்னுடைய தாயார் வீட்டுக்கு அய்யம்மாள் சென்றுவிட்டார். கணவர் மீது ஆத்திரத்தில் இருந்தார்.

கழுத்து அறுத்துக் கொலை

நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவில் வீட்டுக்கு வெளியே ஜீவா படுத்து இருந்தார். அவருடைய 2–வது மனைவி ஷர்மிளாதேவி வேலைக்கு சென்றுவிட்டார். குழந்தைகளும் தூங்கிவிட்டனர்.

நள்ளிரவில் அங்கு வந்த அய்யம்மாள், கணவர் படுத்து இருந்த படுக்கையைச் சுற்றி மிளகாய் பொடியை தூவியதுடன், ஜீவாவின் முகத்திலும் மிளகாய் பொடியை வீசியுள்ளார். பின்னர் அரிவாள்மனையால் கணவரின் கழுத்தை அறுத்துவிட்டு அங்கிருந்து ஓடிவிட்டார் என்று தெரிய வருகிறது. இதற்கிடையே சற்று நேரத்தில் ரத்தவெள்ளத்தில் ஜீவா பிணமானார்.

நாடகமாடினார்

அவர் கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட சம்பவம் நேற்று காலையில் அந்த கிராம மக்களுக்கு தெரியவந்ததால் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. ஆனால், ஒன்றுமே தெரியாதது போல் கணவரின் வீட்டுக்கு வந்த அய்யம்மாள், கணவரின் உடலை பார்த்து கதறி அழுது நாடகமாடினார்.

போலீசார் விசாரணைக்கு பின்பு அய்யம்மாள் நடவடிக்கையில் போலீசாருக்கு சந்தேகம் ஏற்பட்டது. அவரை பிடித்து தீவிர விசாரணை நடத்தியதில், கணவரை அரிவாள்மனையால் கழுத்தை அறுத்துக் கொன்றுவிட்டு, நாடகமாடியது வெளிச்சத்துக்கு வந்தது.

2–வது மனைவியுடன் சேர்ந்து தன்னை கொடுமைப்படுத்தியதால் கணவரை கொன்றதாக அய்யம்மாள் போலீசாரிடம் தெரிவித்து இருக்கிறார். தொடர்ந்து விசாரணை நடந்து வருகிறது.

Woman raped on promise of marriage

The Powai police has arrested a 28-year-old unemployed man for allegedly raping a 26-year-old mother of two children since 2010 on several occasions after promising to her marry her. Finally, the victim demanded the accused to keep his promise, but he did not and raped her again, following which she approached the Powai police. Apart from this incident, two more rapes were reported in the city, where a young woman was raped by her cousin and in the last case a youth raped a minor after allegedly spiking her tea.

The Powai police has identified the accused as Shivkumar Gaikwad. Gaikwad is a resident of Fukat Nagar chawl in Milind Nagar, Powai.

The victim lives in Powai and was married.

However, she had differences with her husband and they are on the verge of being separated. Her husband is unemployed.

The Powai police said that Shivkumar exploited her loneliness and promised to marry her and take care of her two sons. On this pretext, he maintained a sexual relationship with her.

Since 2010 till June 16 this year, he had intercourse with her at least on four occasions. The victim finally asked him to marry her, but he turned her down and then raped her. She then approached the Powai police. Shivkumar was produced in court and remanded to police custody.

In the second case, the rape victim is 22 years old and lives in Dadar (east). The victim's 22-year-old cousin had intercourse with her after promising marriage. When the victim confided in her family members, they decided to approach the police.

The Bhoiwada police has registered a rape case and is gathering evidence in the case before nabbing the youth.

In the last case at Sahar police station, Yogesh Gadkar (23), a businessman has been arrested for raping a 17-year-old at his residence after making her unconscious by spiking her tea. She has been admitted to Holy Spirit Hospital.

AIDWA Appeals to SC to Review Order on Anti-Dowry Law

The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) today appealed to the Supreme Court to review its ruling in the anti-dowry law that police cannot arrest an accused in dowry harassment cases "automatically" and it must give reasons for taking such steps which would be judicially examined.

AIDWA President Malini Bhattacharya said, "While the Court has every right to pass specific orders in a particular case under consideration, there is no reason why they should be extended to all cases of dowry harassment, and made mandatory with threats of contempt of court proceedings in case of non-compliance."

The apex court on Wednesday had said the attitude to arrest first and then proceed with the rest is "despicable" which must be curbed and directed all state governments to ensure that police do not resort to arresting in all offences punishable with up to a seven year jail term including dowry harassment cases.

The court directed all the state governments "to instruct its police officers not to automatically arrest when a case under Section 498-A of Indian Penal Code (dowry harassment) is registered but to satisfy themselves about the necessity for arrest under the parameters laid down flowing from Section 41 CrPC."

According to a statement issued by AIDWA, police officers are required to record reasons for either arresting or not arresting the accused after registration of the FIR which are open to scrutiny by the court. Moreover, the arrest is usually done only after proper investigation in the reported matter.

The organisation also objected to the language used by the court saying that it was "demeaning of women who are subjected to extreme forms of violence".

"We fear it will lend a handle to those retrograde forces in the country who are as it is pushing for weakening this section and making it compoundable and non-bailable," the statement said.

The bench had said, "Section 498-A of the IPC was introduced with avowed object to combat the menace of harassment to a woman at the hands of her husband and his relatives. The fact that Section 498-A is a cognisable and non-bailable offence has lent it a dubious place of pride amongst the provisions that are used as weapons rather than shield by disgruntled wives".

The bench noted that the arrest curtails freedom, brings humiliation and casts scars forever and no arrest should be made only because the offence is non-bailable and cognisable.

A 498a peedith hubby requests his wife to return and live with him. Ablaa naari who had filed the case refused. Hit with 498a on one side and unable to move forward, the hapless husband a businessman attempted suicide in front of her house, pouring kerosine on himself.

Police caught him and his mother and were kind enough to file ONE MORE case u/s 309 (attmpt to commit suicide) on him !!

Prostitution: United Andhra Pradesh ranks 2nd in the country

Hyderabad: Flesh trade flourished in united Andhra Pradesh last year with the state police recording the second highest number of prostitution cases in the country. The undivided state contributed to nearly 20 per cent of immoral trafficking cases reported in India in 2013, revealed National Crime Record Bureau data.

While Tamil Nadu topped the list of states with the maximum number of prostitution cases, the data showed that flesh trade flourished in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam with an alarming number of cases booked under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.

While 2,541 prostitution cases were booked by the police in India, the AP police booked 489 cases, slightly less than Tamil Nadu's 549.

Despite the Hyderabad police busting sex rackets frequently, discreet agents still run high-profile rackets in the city, often with Tollywood junior artistes and models on their payroll. Wealthy businessmen and highly paid professionals use their services, helping the flesh trade thrive in hotels and resorts in the city.

The rackets even use the Internet to advertise. "We find well organised prostitution rackets in the city with the main organisers working covertly while their aides work on the ground. They advertise on different websites and attract customers," said West Zone DCP, Satyanarayana.

In the last two weeks, the city and Cyberabad police have busted four sex rackets after raiding resorts and hotels including the Bikanervala Hotel in Banjara Hills, and rescued 10 women, most of them Tollywood junior artistes. A 26-year-old Mumbai model was also rescued.

Vizag and Vijayawada also recorded increasing number of cases in 2013 as compared to previous years. While 19 cases in Vijayawada and 34 cases in Visakhapatnam were reported in 2012, the numbers increased to 34 and 50 respectively last year.
