A doctor allegedly murdered her husband and two children before committing suicide in their house in Jagraon town of Ludhiana district in the wee hours of Thursday. Parminder Kaur (46), who hanged herself from a ceiling fan, left a suicide note in which she blamed her husband, Gurpreet Singh (44), a financier, and her in-laws for her extreme step. She claimed in the note that Gurpreet had illicit relations with several women.
A qualified ayurveda doctor, Parminder allegedly poisoned to death her husband, daughter Ishmeet Kaur (13) and son Jashanpreet Singh (8).
On the basis of the suicide note, the police registered a case of murder against the deceased woman and a case of abetment to suicide against her in-laws, including father-in-law Pritpal Singh, mother-in-law Dilbag Kaur, sisters-in-law Preeti and Jyoti (based in Muktsar and US, respectively) and Gurpreet's maternal uncle Jatinderjeet Singh Chadha.
According to the police, before killing herself, the woman made a call around 4.15am to her relatives in Guru Har Sahai (Ferozepur), saying that she was going to hang herself in her Shakti Nagar house.
Balwant Singh, chowki incharge, Jagraon bus stand, said they received a call around 5am that Parminder was about to commit suicide.
Inspector Mohammad Jameel, station house officer (SHO), Jagraon city police station, reached the house and rang the doorbell several times, but there was no response.
Jameel then entered the house, where he found the bodies of the two children on a bed. Gurpreet was lying dead on the floor, while Parminder's body was spotted hanging from a ceiling fan. The police saw strangulation marks on Gurpreet's neck. It is suspected that the woman poisoned to death her husband and children and also strangled him with a piece of rope.
When contacted, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Chaudhry said the police were yet to pinpoint how the woman murdered her family members, though it was suspected to be a case of poisoning. The police said Parminder had smashed her husband's mobile phone and thrown it away on Wednesday night.
A post-mortem examination has been conducted by a board of doctors and the viscera sent to the Kharar laboratory.
Action sought against women too
In the suicide note, Parminder Kaur mentioned the names and phone numbers of the women with whom she suspected her husband was involved. She also demanded action against these women. She wrote that her house should be demolished and a children's park be built there so that her soul could rest in peace.
She alleged in the note that instead of stopping her husband from having illicit relations, her in-laws used to support him. She claimed that her husband used to thrash her and her in-laws harassed her.
