Husband arrested on dowry case beaten to death in police custody!! policemen suspended, autopsy shows marks !!

On June 5 a woman filed a rape case against Rokonuzzaman (the deceased) . They also had an arrest warrant against him in a dowry case lodged by his first wife Parvin Aktar.

A police team raided Rokonuzzaman's Syed Shah Lane residence at the port city's Baklia on the night of June 18 to arrest him.

Family members had tried to stop them, demanding that the police show them arrest warrant. They claimed police officials had assaulted him while trying to whisk him away.

The police team eventually took him to their custody even after the businessman fell ill due to the beating.

Police later informed the family that he died in the early hours of June 19, approximately at 1:30am. !!!

Autopsy found wound marks on the deceased's body, said a top-ranking police official.

The police men are now suspended (JUST suspended !!)

Six policemen, accused of murdering a businessman in their custody, have been temporarily suspended.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) took the decision on Tuesday after the man's wife Shimu Aktar lodged the case at Baklia Police Station Monday night.

This was the second case she filed over her husband Rokonuzzaman's death.

Another accused in the case, an Ansar and VDP member, was sent back to his parent force.

A CMP additional commissioner, AKM Shahidur Rahman, confirmed bdnews24.com of the decision.

"Two of the suspended officers have already been arrested while four others are at Damparha Police Lines."

The policemen are Sub-Inspector (SI) Amir Hossain, ASI Enayet Hossain, constables Mizanur Rahman, 'Moslem' and Khokan Miah and drier 'Akbar'. Of them, Amir and Moslem were arrested on Monday evening.

The Ansar member is Constable Shahinur Alam.

The duo was detained after autopsy found wound marks on the deceased's body, said a top-ranking police official.

Shimu Aktar, who is Rokonuzzaman's second wife, had filed the first murder case on June 25 at the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Sayeed.

She accused 10 people including seven policemen.

The seven were deputed to Panchlaish and Baklia police stations.

The other three are police informants Jamal Hossain and Humayun Kabir and one Harunur Rashid. Jamal was arrested after Rokonuzzaman died in police custody.

After taking the case into cognisance, the court had ordered CMP deputy commissioner to investigate and submit the findings by July 23.

Police next day claimed Rokonuzzaman was rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital instead of the police station as he was feeling sick.

Doctors there declared him dead on arrival.
