Woman, 2 others arrested for false rape complaint, extortion

FATEHABAD: Registering a false case of rape against a shopkeeper and collecting Rs 6 lakh extortion money from him landed a woman and her accomplices behind bars here on Friday.

Police on Friday evening arrested the woman and also recovered the money from her.

Saroj Rani, 32, a resident of Kapro village in Hisar, had lodged a complaint two days ago against Atul Kumar of Fatehabad's Char Marla Colony. In her complaint, Rani alleged that she was raped by the shopkeeper when she had come to her friend's house to stay with her for some days.

Later, when police took her to hospital for medical examination, she refused to get examined and retracted her statement, saying she had not been raped.

Sub-inspector Surender Kumar said, "The case of rape was registered on May 22. On Friday, we arrested the accused. During questioning, she told us that he was innocent and that she had demanded Rs 6 lakh from him. He told us about the deal he had fixed with Rani and her two accomplices -- Rajbir and Karambir. Following the tip-off, we arrested the trio, with the extortion money."

A case under sections 389, 506, 120-B and 384 of IPC has been registered against the trio. They were produced in the court, which sent them to judicial custody, Surender Kumar said.
