KANPUR: A pregnant woman allegedly consumed dye at the office of Bhoginpur tehsil SDM in Kanpur Dehat on Wednesday against police inaction in her complaint of harassment for dowry by in-laws. According to reports, Manisha of Sithra Buzurg village was waiting outside tehsil office of SDM Bhognipur Chandrashekhar Mishra to complain about harassment by her in-laws for dowry and other family issues. She claimed that she also wanted to apprise the SDM of police inaction on her complaint.
The woman alleged that the staff at the SDM Bhognipur office kept her waiting for hours. Unable to meet the SDM, Manisha forcibly barged into his office and consumed dye in a bid to end her life. The incident caused a commotion at the SDM's office and the tehsil employees immediately apprised local cops who rushed the woman to the district hospital.
"After coming out of tehsil, she began vomiting and was rushed to the district hospital", Ruby, her sister told TOI. Additional superintendent of police Ram Kishun, however, said, "We are investigating the incident and the circumstances under which the woman attempted suicide." District Magistrate Nitin Bansal, however, said: "It's a family dispute. I am aware of the issue and have instructed SDM Bhognipur to look into the matter."
She has been undergoing treatment at district hospital, where she is said to be out of danger, he added further.
