Two booked for dowry
HT Correspondent , Hindustan Times Kapurthala, August 22, 2013The local police on Thursday booked Gurdeep Singh and his father on charges of dowry harassment.
Gurdeep Singh's wife Ritu in her complaint alleged that she was harassed for dowry ever since her marriage in September 2011.
"Recently they started asking me to bring Rs. 10 lakhs from my parents so that my husband can start a new business. When I denied, they started abusing me and even threatened to kill me. My father, Narinder Kumar somehow arranged around Rs. 2 lakhs and handed it over to them in January last year. But it did not fulfill their greed," she said.
"Later, they even forced me to leave the house and I started living with my parents. During the course of time, I came to know that my in-laws had a criminal record and a case was registered against them at police station number 8 in Jalandhar," she added.
Police, after inquiry, booked Gurdeep Singh and his under sections 498-A and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
