Maid's husband 'killed' Canada-bound girl
LUDHIANA: In a new twist to the murder case of 24-year-old Canada-bound girl of KrishnaNagar, the police have claimed that the husband of victim's maid was behind the crime and not the girl's sister-in-law, who was earlier booked in the case.
Gurvinderjeet Kaur, the victim who had done Bachelors in Dental Surgery, was found killed at her residence by her mother Harjinder Kaur on August 22. She was to leave for Canada with her uncle on August 27.
Ludhiana police commissioner Paramjit Singh Gill in a press conference claimed that Rakesh Kumar, husband of Aarti who was a maid at victim's house for the past 3 years, tried to rape her under the influence of alcohol and when Gurvinderjeet resisted his attempts, he strangulated her.
Police have arrested Rakesh and booked him under Section 302 of the IPC.
According to the commissioner, the girl had lent her mobile phone to Rakesh who wanted to make some important calls. But as he did not return the phone for a long time, she went to get it back from maid's husband. He was heavily drunk at the time and tried to rape her. He killed her as she resisted his attempts. Police also said the accused applied hot iron press on her body to avoid suspicion.
The police commissioner said Rakesh has confessed his crime during interrogation.
Earlier, victim's sister-in-law Tejinder Kaur was booked for the crime after Gurvinder's mother lodged a complaint against her.
Gurvinderjeet, the victim, had done Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). Her mother Harjinder Kaur, a schoolteacher, had accused her daughter-in-law of the murder as Tejinder didn't get along well with the victim. They had some tussle over property too.
On August 22, Gurvinderjeet was taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital where she was declared brought dead. A case of murder had been registered against Gurvinderjeet's sister-in-law Tejinder Kaur.
The autopsy had revealed that the victim was first tortured by an iron press, whose marks were spotted on her arm, chest and abdomen, and was then strangulated to death. There were injury marks on her head too.
Sources had informed that Bhupinder Singh, brother of the deceased, had married Tejinder against the wishes of the family and that was also a reason of bitterness between Gurvinderjeet and Tejinder.
