LUCKNOW: A seven-year-old's innocent narration of how his father died, landed his mother and her paramour in police dragnet in Lucknow on Friday. The incident relates to the murder of an artist cum stage performer in Sarvodayanagar of Ghazipur police circle during the intervening night of August 4 and August 5.

Late night on August 4, the Ghazipur police came to know about the murder of Jagdish Verma (43). His body was found inside his house and a blood-stained cricket bat of his was also recovered. Jagdish's widow Pinki had told the police that two associates of her husband had come to meet him. They were sitting and talking inside the house when she suddenly heard cries for help and rushed to the room where they were sitting, only to find her husband lying in a pool of blood with injuries on his head. A blood-stained cricket bat was also recovered from the scene which the miscreants had apparently used to kill Jagdish.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination which confirmed that Jagdish died due to severe and multiple head injuries. A case was lodged with Ghazipur police station in connection with the incident on the complaint of Pinki.

Police investigations into the case led them to a dead end after the investigators failed to find out any acquaintance of the victim who went by the name Dholakiya. Further investigations were underway but with no particular line to probe, the police were working on trial-and-error basis till about a week ago when the 7-year-old son of Jagdish gave away a clue to the police.

During one of his visits to Jagdish's residence, an investigator happened to talk to the son of the deceased who recollected before him how his father was murdered. When this happened, Pinki was not in the room. The child told the cop that "uncle" was beating his father with a cricket bat and then "mummy" also helped the uncle. Taking it as a clue, police took the cellphone of Pinki on surveillance and soon things began to fall in place.

It came to light that Pinki before her marriage to Jagdish some eight years ago, had met Vinod and fallen in love with him. Vinod is a resident of Pilibhit and works in sweet meat shop.

Thereafter, she was married to Jagdish. Last year, when Pinki went to Pilibhit she met Vinod and was regularly in touch with him on phone ever since. On the day of the murder, Vinod had come to meet Pinki in Lucknow when he was confronted by Jagdish which eventually led to the murder. Police arrested Pinki and Vinod on Friday and sent them to jail.
