A man of Odisha's Baripada town has landed himself in trouble by posting obscene remarks against his wife and describing her as a 'prostitute' in a social networking site. The Town police have registered a case on Friday while the accused is absconding.

According to the police sources the accused Sumanta Samal, a native of Madhuban area of Mayurbhanj district had posted offensive comments against his wife on his Facebook wall on August 4, 5 and 6. He uploaded a photograph of his wife and described her as a sex worker besides providing her contact number on the site.

One of his status messages reads that his wife is in love with a police officer and neglecting him and his 12-year-old son. In this message he had sought suggestions from his Facebook friends to what to do. But his latest update on August 6 assassinating his wife's character has put him in a fix.

The woman besides accusing Samal of tarnishing her image in the society by posting the insulting and insensitive remarks in the social networking site, has charged him and his family members of torturing her physically and mentally for additional dowry.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under sections 498 (a) of the IPC and 66 (a) of the IT act. IIC of Town police station Minati Biswal said though a police team had raided his house, he managed to flee. His family members who were accused of dowry torture however have been granted bail from the court of sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM).

Earlier, Samal was kept confined by his family members in the house for his allegedly erratic behaviour. He was however rescued by the local police on April 16 after he contacted a senior police officer through the networking site and appealed for his release.

While close friends of the accused feared he might have taken this extreme step to take a revenge on his wife, whom he might be suspecting, the police said his writings on the wall were yet to be established.

"Whatever may be the reason, he has violated the rule of law by posting the indecent remarks in a social platform. We would definitely take action against him as per the provisions in the law," the police officer added.
