Businessman arrested for raping colleague
A 28-year-old businessman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping an interior designer numerous times.
The 34-year-old woman was so traumatised that she consumed a heavy dose of sleeping pills to end her life and was admitted to a hospital last month.
After the police were alerted, they recorded the woman's statement and arrested the businessman, Jitendra Badle.
The police said the woman lives in Grant Road with her husband and two children.
According to her statement, she joined Badle's business in 2008. "As their friendship grew, Badle learnt about the troubled relationship between the woman and her husband.
Badle allegedly tried to come close to the woman while she was under an emotional trauma," said an officer from DB Marg police station.
He added that the woman refused to have a physical relationship with Badle.
"On June 18, Badle called the woman to his factory and forced himself on her. He had forcibly violated the woman by taking her to different places on different occasions and had threatened her. Last month, the victim consumed an overdose of sleeping pills to end her life. She was admitted to a private hospital in Charni Road," said the officer.
The police lodged a complaint on Tuesday. "We called Badle and after initial questioning he was placed under arrest the same day. He has been booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code," the officer said.
