Canter driver runs over mother-in-law
A 50-year-old woman was crushed to death and her husband and daughter were severely injured after her son-in-law, in an alleged bid to avenge his humiliation by them, rammed a canter against their motorcycle on NICE road on Wednesday.
While Adilakshmi was killed on the spot, her husband Kanthraju and daughter Manjula were rushed to Rajarajeshwari Hospital where they were being treated.
The trio were returning to their house in Hemmigepura after visiting their relatives when the incident occurred.
Based on the complaint, the Kengeri police have taken up a case of murder and attempt to murder and nabbed Chandrashekhar (25), a canter driver.
He had married Manjula two years ago. She returned to her parents' house about a year ago and filed a dowry harassment complaint with Hebbagodi police station against Chandrashekhar. Based on the complaint, he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
After coming out on bail, Chandrashekhar filed a divorce petition against Manjula but the villagers counselled both the families.
Kanthraju promised to send Manjula to Chandrashekhar's house if the latter withdrew the divorce petition. He also said that he would withdraw the complaint made against Chandrashekar.
While Chandrashekhar withdrew the divorce petition, Kanthraju did not keep his word, the police said.
