Boyfriend in custody for killing wrestler
JAIPUR: The boyfriend of an international-level woman wrestler, who represented India in a tournament in Malaysia last year, was arrested for her murder and sent to five-day police remand on Friday. Police said further evidence will be collected to make the case against the accused strong. He will also be interrogated to ascertain whether anyone else was involved in the conspiracy in the murder.
The girl identified as Suman Meena was a resident of Santokpuravillage in Rudhwal area of Bharatpur and had come to Jaipur in November last year to appear in various competitive exams including that of recruitment for constables. Police said that the girl was staying in Delhi along with his father before coming to Jaipur. Police said she was an international-level athlete who had represented India in an international tournament in Malaysia last year. Her body was found on the railway tracks near B2 bypass on July 30.
The youth, Vikas Kumar, who had first strangled her to death and then brunt her body to prevent identification had been arrested on Thursday. Police said Vikas sexually exploited the girl and had murdered her when she insisted that he marry her. On some pretext, Vikas took her to the railway tracks on July 30 and used her stole to strangulate her.
"He was carrying a kerosene can on his bike. He sprinkled kerosene on her body and then set her on fire. We tried to identify the body. We had distributed the photograph of the body in the area near the place where she was burned. Someone who knew Vikas also recognised her from the photo on Wednesday," said ACP, Mansarovar, Sarita Badgujjar. "We handed over the body to the family postmortem," police said.
