10 yrs rigorous imprisonment for rape on nuptial promise
NEW DELHI: A trial court has sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping a 20-year-old woman on false promise of marrying her.
The court relied on the testimony of the woman, the DNA report of the victim's child and other evidence produced before it while convicting 22-year-old Lalit Chauhan, a resident of Vishvas Nagar, and imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on him.
Additional sessions judge M C Gupta said the accused has not disputed the fact that he had repeated sexual intercourse with the prosecutrix or being father of the girl born to the prosecutrix on September 4, 2012.
According to police, the woman had lodged a complaint on March 5, 2012 that she had met Chauhan in 2010 and they became friends. On December 25, 2011, they had gone to Purana Qila where Chauhan mixed some sedative in her cold drink after which she fell unconscious. Chauhan first took her nude photos and then raped her, said police.
The police said Chauhan raped the victim for over two months after threatening that he would put her nude photos on the internet. They also said Chauhan promised the victim that he would marry her. After the victim became pregnant, Chauhan refused to marry her and in September last year, she delivered a child. The DNA profiling of the baby matched with him.
