NRI's racial bias rant against Dreamliner crew goes viral

In yet another controversy revolving around Air India's Dreamliner aircraft, a Melbourne-based NRI has alleged that he faced racial bias from crew members of the airline on its maiden flight. The allegation went viral after he described his experience of his Melbourne-Delhi flight to an Australia based radio channel.

Speaking to an Australia-based Punjabi radio station, the passenger, identified as Gurpal Singh, claims that out of the excitement that the Dreamliner aircraft had generated, he had booked a flight for last Friday from Melbourne to Delhi.

Singh told the radio station that the inconvenience started right at the beginning, with the flight being about two hours late. But it didn't end there: Singh said he was subjected to racial discrimination, which is what made him sad.

Describing the incident, he said that when he asked for water, the crew member was rude to him and only offered him the water in a paper cup after a lot of delay. "However, when a white woman asked for the same, she got it promptly, in a pet bottle," Singh added.

He also alleged that later during the flight, when he asked for the dinner in the evening (7pm Melbourne time), the crew members told him that it would be served only when it's dinner time in India, even though Indian Standard Time (IST) is about five hours behind Melbourne.

Singh added that after the incident he chose to return to Australia via another airline, and swore not to fly by Air India again. He now plans on taking legal action against the airline.

A spokesperson for the airline did not respond to the calls and text messages sent by dna.

Earlier this month, national carrier Air India launched a direct flight to Australia on its much touted  Boeing Dreamliner aircraft.

The flight, which is being connected to Melbourne and Sydney with Delhi, is expected to give tremendous boost to the business and tourism sector among both the countries.
