Canteen owner held for 'rape' of student
HYDERABAD: The Santoshnagar police arrested the owner of a college canteen for allegedly kidnapping and raping a polytechnic student from the Old City.
Satya Prakash Singh, 33, a native of Bihar, was picked up from the canteen of Teegala Krishna Reddy College at Meerpet on Thursday.
According to sources, Singh had reportedly kidnapped the girl from the college and confined her in a rented house in the Uppal area in April 2012. The parents of the girl had lodged a 'missing' complaint with the Santoshnagar police.
The victim reportedly managed to escape from the clutches of the kidnapper and reached home on Wednesday night. She narrated the ordeal she went through for more than one year to her parents and the police.
After recording her statement, the police altered the case by adding IPC Sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her for marriage), 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Satya Prakash Singh and arrested him.
"The accused has been physically exploiting the girl. We have arrested him," Santoshnagar inspector KVM Prasad said.
