PUNE: The court of additional sessions judge Prachi Kulkarni on Thursday sentenced a 21-year old Nepalese woman to life imprisonment for bludgeoning her husband to death in 2011. At the time of incident, the accused was two months pregnant and gave birth to a son who lives in Yerawada central jail with her.

The court slapped a fine of Rs 500 on the convict Kamala Ramesh Dholi alias Thapa a native of Nepal who lived in Pimpale Nilakh. She was the second wife of deceased Ramesh Dholi (26).

Dholi came to India for work in 2010. In January 2011, he married Kamala as her family lived in Chinchwad. After marriage, the couple stayed at a construction site in Pimpale Nilakh where Dholi worked as security guard.

The prosecution's case is that the relation between the couple turned sour as Dholi suspected his wife of having an affair with another man.

According to the prosecution, fed up with the constant harassment, Kamla bludgeoned him to death on the night of July 25, 2011, when he was under influence of liquor.

After that she fled and was waiting at a bus stop when a Nepalese waiter found her alone and took her to his sister's place to help her. She had not told him about the incident. On the next day, she went to her father's house and then back to her house with her father, the prosecution said.

The accused claimed that some unidentified persons had robbed and murdered her husband. The site supervisor Shashank Shashikant Waykar (36) had lodged a murder complaint against unidentified people with Sangvi police station.

Additional public prosecutor Balasaheb Khopade examined 20 witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused. Police had seized her blood stained clothes. The DNA report matched the blood to that of the deceased. The scientific evidence and statements of witnesses besides circumstantial evidence nailed the accused and proved vital in her conviction, Khopade said
